Opening ceremony usda summer farmers market washington dc location

USDA acting Deputy Secretary Michael Scuse rings the bell during the opening ceremony which was held indoors due to rain.

Mr. Scuse said this was the eighteenth year of the USDA's DC summer farmers market, and that in those years since its opening there has been a 300% growth rate in total USA farmers market locations.

There are now nearly 8,000 total farmers markets located across all 50 U.S. states and territories.

This rapid growth rate of public green markets exemplifies the growing public awareness and demand for farm fresh, healthy, affordable, local foods.
